More about our coir doormats

Durability

Did you know that coir doormats are crafted from high quality, tufted coconut fibre? Our doormats are completely natural, long lasting and good for the planet. We use modern technology to ensure crystal clear prints and increased durability. Our team has developed this product over the years to be the most desirable doormat on the market.

Caring for your mat

As our coir doormats are a natural product, you may notice some shedding through time. We advise that you regularly shake your doormat or vacuum it.
Please avoid getting your doormat wet and do not attempt to clean with cleaning products. We advise that you keep our doormats inside or in a well sheltered area as coir is very absorbent.

Artsy Mats vs competitors

Choose quality that lasts with Artsy Mats. Our doormats feature high-definition printing for crisp, vibrant designs, reduced shedding for less mess, and a natural rubber backing for improved durability and grip. In comparison, many cheaper coir mats use lower-definition prints with spray bleed, shed more fibres, and are finished with a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) backing.

Frequently asked questions

What are coir mats made from?

Coir doormats are made from natural coconut husk fibres, a durable and renewable material known for its tough, bristly texture. These natural fibres are highly effective at scraping dirt, mud and debris from shoes, making coir one of the best materials for outdoor doormats. At Artsy Mats, our coir doormats combine this practical performance with stylish, design-led patterns to create a welcoming entrance that is both beautiful and functional.

Are coir mats suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, coir mats are ideal for outdoor use, particularly in sheltered areas such as porches, covered front doors and entranceways. Their dense natural fibres are designed to withstand daily foot traffic while trapping dirt and moisture before it enters your home. Coir doormats are especially popular in the UK, where wet and muddy conditions make a hard-wearing front door mat essential.

How do you clean a coir doormat?

To clean a coir doormat, simply shake it outdoors to remove loose dirt, brush it with a stiff brush or vacuum regularly. This quick maintenance helps keep the coconut fibres looking fresh and performing effectively. To prolong the life of your mat, avoid soaking it in water or leaving it exposed to excessive moisture for extended periods.

Do coir mats shed, and how long do they last?

All natural coir doormats shed to some extent, particularly when they are new, as loose coconut fibres settle during the first few weeks of use. At Artsy Mats, our coir mats are treated with a special reduced-shedding coating to help minimise fibre loss and keep your entrance looking tidier from day one. With regular care and placement in a sheltered doorway, a high-quality coir doormat can last for several years while continuing to scrape away dirt, mud and debris effectively.

Are coir doormats environmentally friendly?

Yes, coir is a natural by-product of coconut harvesting, making it a renewable and biodegradable material. This makes coir doormats a more sustainable alternative to many synthetic mats. They offer excellent durability and dirt-trapping performance while also appealing to customers looking for eco-friendly home products.

What size coir doormat should I choose?

The best coir doormat size depends on the width of your doorway and the overall look you want to create. Larger coir mats provide more surface area for scraping dirt and can make your entrance feel more generous and welcoming, while smaller mats are ideal for compact porches and apartment entrances. Choosing a mat that spans most of your doorway generally provides the best combination of practicality and style.
