Say Yes To A Grey Doorway

    Go Grey

Grey décor never goes out of style and goes with any colour imaginable so why wouldn’t you want a grey doorway?

With all the bad weather recently we have all had we are all dreaming of spring. What a better way to kick start the new season than a refresh for your front door. With spring fast approaching why not up your front door game and go bold with grey!

Grey is such a good colour to choose for a front door due to so many factors such as there are so many different shades to choose from when browsing for your perfect colour. Also grey makes your entrance look modern and will stand out when your guests arrive.

I have put together a selection of ideas on how to style your grey doormat to have the ultimate grey doorway. I have included all my favourite designs included in the Artsy Grey Doormat collection plus my favourite hallways and front doors to match. If going full grey isn’t your thing, then I have put together lots of ways to tie into your current décor situation.

    Grey Shades

Okay so you have chosen to go with a grey front door (of course) but you still need to pick the right shade for your home.

I know what you are thinking, grey shades, you mean tell me there isn’t just one perfect grey colour? Yep that is correct. There are so many different shades of grey out there that it is so hard trying to choose the perfect one for your front door.

You want to ensure you really are happy with the shade chosen as you will always be seeing the shade when you leave and come home. Try out a few first with some test pots and get a feel of the shades. You might prefer a darker moodier shade but realise this isn’t you at all once painted.

I have rounded up various great shades of grey to choose for your front door this season. Colours so good, you might want to repaint your whole house with it!

All paint colours have been linked to the relevant website.

Our top picks from Dulux grey range:

Shades from left to right: Gallant Grey / Goose Down / Pearl Grey

Our top picks from Farrow & Ball grey range:

Shades from left to right: Elephant’s Breath / Cornforth White / Manor House Grey / Purbeck Stone

If these shades aren’t for you, you can find various gorgeous grey shades from Farrow & Ball here

Don’t forget when painting a front door to use a weather shield coat over the base. This will help protect and shield it from bad weather conditions. This will be painted over the base once dry and you are happy with the result.

    Front Door Accessories

Choosing accessories is always my favourite part in décor. It ties everything in nicely and really is the cherry on top of your hard work.

You have your new front door colour so you need to accessorise it however there are a few factors to consider before buying. Always think about can they withstand extreme weather conditions such as heavy rain and potential snow?

Of course you can bring in your flower wreaths but you don’t want a door knocker going rusty after being outside in the dull British weather.

There are so many ways to accessorise your front door, such as pretty door knockers, colourful wreaths and pots for those upcoming spring flowers and plants. You might want to step away from grey at this part before you go into a grey overload. Try opting for colours that match well with grey, you have so many different options because grey is such a netural colour. Why not try silver or bronze for your door accessories such as door knocker and letter box. Remember to think about the style of your home too!

I have searched and found some amazing ways to really finish off your front door, here is my top favourite accessories for the season.

Why You Need A Vinyl Mat

A Mat That Enhances and Protects Your Home

Our vinyl floormats are mats with a difference, they are completely different to our coir doormats and have a range of unique benefits.
They are suitable for kitchens, hallways, and BBQ areas. How great are they sounding already? Patterned tiles have been a trend in kitchens around the world for sometime now, meaning our ’tile print’ vinyl mats have been a big hit.

We have launched 11 different patterns so far, ranging from neural mosaic styles to floral. My favourite thing about these mats is that they blend in with your homes furnishings, they protect your floor whilst looking stylish and on trend. Wipe them clean and move them from room to room, they are very versatile.

    Capri Vinyl Floor Mat

As you can see from the above image, the vinyl mats create an impact whilst blending in with modern surroundings. We have seen these mats placed in rooms of different styles and they only add to the rooms aesthetic.

Will they fit into my home?

Did you know they are available in four sizes? Ranging from 72x100cm to 100x147cm. As I’ve previously mentioned, they come in several patterns and we are sure there will be one to suit you. We have bright colours, neutrals and mixed patterns. We have added a none slip coating to these mats, meaning they will stay in place without sliding around the floor.

Tip: only place these mats on top of a hard surface, such as laminate. They won’t stay in position as easily on carpet or grass.

    Place Your Vinyl Outside

Are you planning on hosting a garden party in the near future? As the weather improves, this may be on your agenda. Refresh the look of your garden and add a vinyl mat to a cosy corner, creating a social area or protect your floor in the BBQ area. Simply wipe the mat clean and move it inside to protect the rest of your living space.

    How Are Coir Doormats Made?

    An Overview

As you may know, Artsy Doormats was created in 2016 when we saw a gap in the market for unique doormats. Since then we have been working hard to create funky designs on high quality coir doormats.

Our team are always finding ways to improve Artsy Doormats, whether that’s by following trends and creating new designs or by quality checking our paint and doormats. We chose to work with coir doormats as they’re incredibly durable and hard working, which is essential when you’re repeatedly wiping your muddy feet on something!

We hand spray our doormats, this means that every doormat is seen by one of our team before it heads out the door to you. This helps to ensure you’re happy with your doormat, after all it’s got to be Instagram worthy when you receive it!

So, how are coir doormats made?

Coir has been used to make doormats for many years and there’s lots of reasons why. Coconut’s are grown with an outer husk attached, this is something you won’t see on them in supermarkets. This is then scraped off the coconut to start the process of making the matting. As coir is completely natural, this makes it 100% organic and biodegradable.

Fun fact: To produce up to 1kg of coir you will need 100 coconuts!

Once the process of de-husking is complete, the coconut husk is then left to soak in water, which will encourage bacteria to form. Bacteria will eat away the coconut husk and leave only raw coir behind. The coir is then ready to be spun around and beat until the fibres loosen up, when they’re loosened they will then be moved into a slower-moving drum that will separate fibres into different lengths. Only a specific length of fibres can be used for doormats but the other fibres won’t be wasted, they will go on to be used for other useful items.

    The Final Step

Finally, the desired lengths of coir fibres are collected together to begin forming the doormat shape. Coir can be placed into various shapes, like our hearts and circles. Our doormat base will always be a brown shade, however it is easy to colour as well. We now have several paint colours that look very vibrant after a couple of coats, this paint can last a long time as long as it’s kept away from bad weather conditions.

It’s amazing to think about the process that goes into making a doormat, maybe you will think about this when you next treat yourself to an Artsy Doormat.

All You Need To Know About Coir Doormats

We have put together a small guide about coir doormats to answer some common questions we get asked about in regards to our doormats, we hope this helps you next time you are browsing through our website and are asking yourself these same questions.

Curious about the water resistance of coir doormats and their shedding tendencies? Let’s uncover the facts and provide essential care tips to ensure your doormat stays in top shape.

    Waterproofing

When deciding whether to place your doormat indoors or outdoors, you may wonder if it’s waterproof. Unfortunately, coir doormats are not waterproof. Crafted from natural fibres and backed with anti-slip PVC, prolonged exposure to heavy rain can accelerate wear and darken the mat’s color. To maximize its lifespan, it’s advisable to position your doormat indoors or in a sheltered outdoor area.

    Shedding

Rumors about coir doormats shedding may have crossed your path, but let’s dispel those concerns. Coir doormats are constructed using natural coconut fibres glued onto a PVC backing. While some fibers may loosen, they typically shed in small quantities rather than clumps. Over time, shedding decreases as loose fibres naturally work their way out.

To manage shedding, simply shake the doormat occasionally to loosen any loose fibers. Regular vacuuming or brushing will help remove stray hairs and prevent build-up, preserving the design and preventing any fading appearance. Following these quick cleaning tips will keep your doormat looking its best.

    Cleaning

Do coir doormats require washing? The answer is yes, but remember that they necessitate specific cleaning techniques and should not be placed in a washing machine. Here’s why:

    • Coir doormats are not waterproof.
    • They are too large for standard washing machines.
    • The tough bristly fibers are unsuitable for machine washing.
    • To clean your coir doormat effectively, consider the following factors: the time of year, weekly foot traffic, and the surrounding environment (especially if placed near a muddy entrance). For highly muddy areas, our Country Home collection is an ideal choice.

For routine maintenance, vacuum your doormat whenever you clean the surrounding floor (preferably weekly). For a more thorough clean, follow a monthly cleaning schedule or as needed.

    Preservation Tips

To extend the life of your doormat, keep these tips in mind:

    • Regularly shake or vacuum to remove loose coir tufts.
    • Brush or shake out any accumulated dirt on the mat’s surface.
    • Place your doormat indoors or in a sheltered outdoor area.
    • Consider replacing your doormat every 1-2 years for optimal performance.

By following these care instructions, your coir doormat will maintain its beauty and functionality, welcoming guests with style while providing an effective dirt-trapping solution.
